The client

Cœur en tête is led by Krysta Letto and Sarah Hamel, two child and family specialists, both with a master's degree in psychoeducation, who have spent years turning their work with families into advice a parent can use the same evening. They have built video courses grounded in the science of child development, printable scripts, a podcast and live sessions, and they draw parents and childhood professionals from across Québec. They know what to do when a four-year-old will not sleep, how to talk about screens with a teenager, and what a daycare separation looks like when it goes well. In a field full of conflicting advice, their community trusts them.

The next step was an app that puts everything they know in a parent's pocket at the moment a family needs it. They brought us in to build it.

What we built

Datadom came in as their engineering, project management and product arm, and we started from the business goal. Krysta and Sarah wanted their members to reach the content from a phone, wherever they were, and to hear right away when something new came out. The first release was scoped around that. The library had to work on iOS and Android, and a push notification had to go out whenever they published something, so their community always knows when something new is out.

Before building the app, the first job was to give shape to what Krysta and Sarah already knew they wanted. We opened with a one-week design sprint of three days of sketches and two days of wireframes, and from then on design ran one week ahead of engineering, so every screen was drawn, discussed and approved before anyone wrote code for it.

Each Friday they saw a demo of what had been built that week and decided what came next. That rhythm turned a long list of ideas into a twelve-week plan in five phases, which went from sign-in and the library through payments, community and the coach to the store launch. Each phase was small enough to execute well, and each was approved before the next one began.

Underneath the app is a backend and a content system that Krysta and Sarah run themselves, so a new course or a new live session goes out without a developer. Their existing members, subscriptions and community history moved over with them, so the community kept everything it had built. The whole platform is hosted in Canada and built with Law 25 requirements in mind.

The app is built around five parts.

PartInside the appWhat it does for the member
01

The library

Every course is chaptered, with readings, audio and printable tools behind it. A parent can search the library or filter it by their child's age and by what the family is going through.

02

The week

The home screen is organised around the week. It shows what to watch next, a challenge to try at home, and the live sessions coming up, and it keeps the replays for anyone who missed them.

03

Community, Q&A and events

A private community brings parents and practitioners together around the same approach. Krysta and Sarah answer questions live, and a calendar keeps track of every event.

04

Mat Bot, the grounded coach

A parent types a few words about what their child is doing, and the coach points them to the right course, article, audio or room. It answers only with Krysta and Sarah's library of content.

05

Plans and licences

Parents subscribe on their own plan and practitioners on theirs. Daycares, schools and organisations take an annual licence that gives every educator a seat. The app supports family profiles, works in French and English, and comes in light and dark modes.

The La Boussole app: a sidebar with home, journey, resources, podcasts, Q&A, events, community, weekly challenge and Mat Bot, next to the course library filtered by age
This is the library in La Boussole. A parent can filter the courses, readings, audio and printables by their child's age and by what the family is going through.
The new Cœur en tête website: the app's library, a course card, the live Q&A badge and a phone showing the coach
La Boussole brings together the library, the courses, the live Q&A with Krysta and Sarah, and Mat Bot on the phone, which points a parent to the right resource.

AI that fits the problem

Mat Bot is the coach inside La Boussole, and we built it around one rule: every answer has to stay inside what Krysta and Sarah would say themselves. A parent types what their child is doing, the bot reads it, and it points them to the right course, article, audio or community room from their library. That is all it answers with, so Krysta and Sarah's approach always has the last word.

The same care went into the harder moments. When a parent's message shows they are going through a hard time, Mat Bot points them to the right help and flags the message for the Cœur en tête team. That is how we approach AI in our work. We build what the product needs, we check it against what our clients want, and we keep it no bigger than it has to be.
